Get Set!

Let’s continue from our last blog, “On Your Mark”. In racing, we know that “get set” is next after getting on our mark. We know where we’re going, we know how we’re going to get there, and we’ve received all the instructions.

In our spiritual walk, getting set is about the mind. Instead of preparing to physically run, we’re deciding that we will not be deterred. A lot of times, we get the information we need to move forward, but are paralyzed by fear, so when it’s time to go, we never move. We let external factors like opinions of others, concern for how we will be received, discomfort, (really any excuse we can come up with) prevent us from being set.

Have you ever heard that someone is set in their ways?

That means the person is used to doing things a particular way, and there’s really no way to make them react differently. People will navigate around that person, because they know it’s almost impossible to get them away from what is tried and true in their lives.

We should be the same in our relationship with God.

We know that we can trust Him, and that His promises are yes and amen. We know that there’s nothing that can separate us from His love. We know that His plans are to prosper us and not to harm us, to give us hope and an expected end!

His word is full of promises to us, things we can go back to and reference when the race feels long. He has given us so much information so that we can push forward, to be set.

Another way you’ve heard set is the process of setting. When you pour a mold, you leave it for a specific period of time to cool and harden. This is the setting process. When you are done setting the mold (soap, chocolate, candy, etc) it keeps its shape and is ready to be used.

The same goes with us. We should take the word in daily, allowing it to mold us (being transformed by the renewing of our minds) so that when it’s time to run the race, we can be set. There’s no more doubt or fear, we aren’t worried. We can no longer be easily swayed, because we took the time to get set. We’re in optimal condition to be used by God, for His purpose.

Ask God what you need to be set to fulfill His plan in your life
